Experienced Violin Teacher In North London

I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, where I started learning the violin at the age 5.
Later I moved to the US for higher education and studied Music and Economics at Northwestern University in Illinois. After moving to London with my husband, I worked in the financial services industry for 10 years, keeping my violin always close to my heart and making friends with local musicians.

My passion for teaching started when I was at home with my baby daughter, when a parent at my older child’s school asked me to teach her son. It was a mutual experience in that I learned as much from my student as he learned from me. He went on to study the violin at a well-known conservatoire and I am grateful to the mum who entrusted him to me. After my first student, my teaching practice grew, and now after 10 years I have an established private teaching practice as well as in schools in London.  I am also an enthusiastic chamber musician, performing in chamber music groups and orchestras in North London.

Many of my students have won music places and scholarships for schools, entrance to the Junior Music Colleges, prizes in competitions and festivals and places in the National Children’s Orchestra and National Youth String Orchestra.

I have been lucky enough to teach school orchestras and ensembles, who performed in fantastic venues like the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall, having reached the finals and semi-finals of Music for Youth Festivals.”

I am grateful to my students for their commitment and sincerity, and I continue to learn much from them. I continue to study the art of teaching in a structured way and have been awarded the Certificate of Teaching by ABRSM and Post Graduate Certificate in String Teaching through University of Chichester and European String Teachers’ Association.

My passionate message is that learning the violin can bring so many experiences
regardless of whether you choose it as your vocational calling or not.

In my late teens and through university, violin took me to many places including Chile, Japan, US, Germany, Denmark, and I met many wonderful people from all of the world.

I came to London not knowing anyone and violin played a big part in meeting new people here in London. Performing experiences are transferrable skills. This helped me in my previous career, when presenting to groups of people for example. Playing the violin is so much more than just playing the violin and develops you and your brain in so many ways. I hope that you enjoy your violin journey and all the stimulating challenges it will present to you.
